You knew it was stupid to leave the village. But since when had you ever followed the rules? Of course the immense anger you were feeling probably was the reason you weren't thinking straight.
And you certainly weren't think straight. After all, you failed to notice to signs villagers had put up years ago. The ones that foretold death was a head.
And you failed to notice the covered well, until you were standing on it and the splintered wood of the planks gave way.
Then you noticed and you screamed for all you were worth. Hitting the bottom of the well you groaned, biting your lower lip. Nothing was broken, but you felt every muscle screaming in pain.
Sitting up, you coughed. The place was dusty. You blinked and looked around, wells should not be dusty.
The inside of the well looked more like a tomb. You shivered as you spotted a giant stone coffin. Standing up, you limped over to it. Russian cryllic was chiseled across the top, covered by moss fragments and cobwebs. Brushing them away, you wondered what the words said.
Deciding to act like the idiots in horror movies, you threw caution to the wind and pushed the lid off. It was awfully light for something made of stone. Peeking in you rolled your eyes.
Whatever the hell was inside, it was wrapped up in a thin gauze. Reaching down you grabbed the corner of the gauze. Before you could peel it away, something shot out, wrapping around your wrist.
It was a hand, cold and pale. A dead hand, that was moving. Before you could scream, you were falling backwards, something falling on top of you. A cold hand was covering your mouth.
"Don't scream. I von't hurt you." A horse voice whispered. Your eyes were wide and you nodded to show that you understood. The hand left your mouth, it's owner pulling away. You gaped up at him.
A pale man with a large nose and pale violet eyes. He smiled at you shakily. You shivered slightly, staring up at the obviously ancient man. He looked young though, if a bit sick looking.
A ragged pink scarf hung loosely around his neck. Looking closer, you could see that it was made of tiny wilting flowers. Ivory vines were twined in his hair, forming some sort of crown.
You shied away from him, gaping. His smile vanished and sadness darkened his beautiful eyes. You kicked your self mentally. The guy obviously hadn't seen another living being for several years, you needed to be a little nicer.
"Sorry. You just, um, scared me."
He nodded, smiling slightly. You looked up, a faint point of light the only sign of where you had fallen through. He noticed and also looked up, his face clouding over.
"Sey really did it."
"What for?" You glanced at him and frowned. He smiled, the corners of his eyes crinkling. You waited, your face slowly turning red as he stared.
"I'm se Prince of se forest."
Prince of the forest. Which meant what? He was the ruler of the forest? Or was he a personification of the forest?
He smiled kindly when he saw how confused you had become. Taking you hand, he covered it in his own. When he opened them you gasped. A tiny flower was twisted around your finger. It glowed faintly in the dim light of the well.
"How?" You trailed off, just staring. His smile grew, almost child like. You smiled back, eyes wide. He stood and clapped his hands.
All around a glowing began. Small blue mushrooms with white spots shone faintly, illuminating the space around you. Beautiful flowers of varying shades of purple bloomed in a circle around the tomb like enclosure. No it wasn't a tomb anymore. It was like a tiny world, living in the bottom of the well.
"I might just be a Prince, but I still need a queen." He held out his hand, grinning. You blushed, reaching out, you took it. Pulling you to his chest, he raised a hand to his hair. Tiny flowers and vines slithered from between his fingers, forming a crown on your head.
Leaning down, he pressed his lips to yours. Smiling you kissed him back, tangling you fingers in his hair.
